Application Fee: $45

Applicants will be notified of the decisions of the Selection Committee by early March. Immediately upon notification of acceptance general enrollees must make a deposit of $500, by EFT, credit card, or check payable to American Friends of Attingham, as partial payment for the course (students receiving scholarships, $250). The balance of the fee is due by April 15, 2026.

Applicants Reapplying: Applicants who applied to participate in the most recent Summer School, but were not accepted, are welcome to reapply. Such applicants may consult their decision letter for additional guidance, as applicable. The Selection Committee does not give preference to reapplications; it is therefore strongly recommended that you submit an updated personal statement and new letters of recommendation.

Please note: You cannot submit the form until all required fields (noted by *) are filled in. If a required field does not apply to you, please indicate “n/a”. Unsolicited materials (resumes, publications, etc.) will not be reviewed by the Selection Committee.

5. Letters of Reference
Two (2) reference letters are required from professionals able to speak to candidate’s qualifications and ability to benefit from and contribute to the course. References from former Attingham students are especially useful. The letters should be one page in length and submitted by the recommender directly to the American Friends by the application deadline.

Application Requirements
Once complete, please submit the application form using the “Submit this application” button below. You will receive an automatic email confirmation with all the information you provided. If you do not receive this email, please email the American Friends of Attingham straight away:

The "Save and Continue Later" feature allows you to complete your form in several stages. Before using this feature, we strongly recommend you make a copy of any data you cannot afford to lose. For example, open a word processor or note taking application, and copy and paste the data on your device.

The following items are required for submission:
1. Once you submit the application and receive the email confirmation, please contact
  to make sure that your application has been received.
2. If applying for scholarship assistance, please submit the scholarship form and again, please contact to make sure that your scholarship form has been received. In addition, you will be required to submit the first two pages of your most recent federal tax return and your W2. Please redact your SSN. You may submit your tax return by encrypted or secure email; or, if you prefer, by regular mail sent to the office of the American Friends of Attingham.
3. The application fee is payable by credit card or check made out to American Friends of Attingham. The application fee is waived for those reapplying from last year’s course.
4. Two (2) reference letters, sent under separate cover. Letters must be mailed or emailed directly by recommender. It is the prospective applicant’s responsibility to ensure the American Friends of Attingham has received both letters of recommendation. The AFA does not contact references regarding missing or late letters of recommendation.
ALL MATERIALS MUST BE RECEIVED BY THE APPLICATION DEADLINE. Late applications materials will not be distributed to the Selection Committee unless you have made alternate arrangements with the Administrator.

You will have the option to enter your email address to send the link by email, but PLEASE NOTE, if you enter the wrong email address, we will be unable to retrieve the link and you will have to start a new application.
